Golden Scissors Fashion Show | San Diego Fashion

Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good fashion show. The creativity, the drama, the music. Honestly, what's not to love? The most recent fashion show I was invited to shoot was the San Diego Mesa College's 30th annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show downtown at the Harbor Island Sheraton. It was amazing to see the Marina Room transformed as the stage for San Diego fashion. Of course backstage was chaotic at times, but the Hair and Make-up teams from San Diego City College worked their magic on all the models and made sure they were styled to fit their garment. The show started with two guest alumni designers' most recent works. <--break->Osbaldo Ahumada showcased his dark 'Art Meets Fashion' collection to the theme of 'La Femme Noir', while Trista Roland walked her vintage inspired 'Sugardale Clothing' line.

After the two guest designers, the show continued with themed walks of mixed designer works in the categories of weekend wear, career wear, children's wear, club wear, millinery, evening wear, and fantasy. Following those came selected collections from the advanced design students. So much fabulous-ness, right? Waaay too much for a humble blog to contain.  As such I have chosen my top ten looks of all the designs that walked AND picked my favorite designer's collection of the night!  It's always so inspiring being under the same roof as so many creatives, it's truly magic.  {>o<}

My Top Ten Favorite Designs (in no particular order):

10) This dress was made of toilette paper and was pink! So awesome. Plus model Kelly Voelkel rocked this look. Hard.

9) Sheik, sleek gray dress. Gorgeously constructed.

8) Feathers! Interesting cutout panels and shape.

7) TextureTextureTexture! And for the love of peplum.

6) Interesting black halter detail on light toned top with short-shorts. Model killed it!!

5) Vibrant color, asymmetrical design. Addicted to asymmetry!

4) Same designer as 5. Again with the fab arm extravagance. Lots of attitude in this one. Loved.

3) Sheer black strappy number. Interesting cutouts. Super cute length.

2) Such a tone of strength. Loved the sheer and color of this look.

1) So elaborately detailed! Lace and purple! Looked like a sculpture. Amazing.

Favorite Designer Collection: Sarah Davidson's McBeath Line!!  Que a jazzy 'Que Serra Serra', and out walks a fashion embodiment of Art Nouveau. Jewel-toned-awesomeness. Vintage inspired lines and curves. Dramatic, yet under control. Simply put, fabulous.

Let me just interject here to say this model, the one you are no doubt adoring in the gold gown above was amazing in everything she wore. No joke, everything! She made a party streamer dress look fabulous. Her name is Traelee Costello, and she was my favorite model of the night, hands down.

See?!?... Isn't Sarah Davidson of McBeath the cutest? She has such a bright future ahead of her, as do all the designers that were featured. A future so bright, you've gotta wear shades!
